Maschinenfabrik Niehoff GmbH & Co. KG, one of the worldwide leading manufacturers of machinery for the wire and cable industry, is building a completely new plant at the companys headquarters in Schwabach near Nuremberg, Germany. The mid September groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of the development. The companys departments are planned to be relocated in three stages. The first phase of construction will include the new locations for the following departments: assembly, test stand, trials, shipping, paint shop and apprentices workshop. The first construction stage, which has been started, comprises a production area of 17,000 m2 and production-related offices of 1,500 m2. The company is investing 25 million Euros, not including the property purchase, in this first construction phase. Dependent upon future business conditions, the company is planning a second phase of construction consisting of another 8,000 m2 production area.

To maintain its leadership in the wire and cable equipment manufacturing industry and increase its production efficiency, Niehoff continuously invests in the development of new and innovative products and also in machinery, equipment and manufacturing and organizational methods. During the last few years the company has expanded its portfolio by adding braiding machines, stranding machines for data cables and inductive annealers to its product line. The buyout of Hacoba rewinders and Bongard coilers completed Niehoffs production portfolio. Additionally, considerable worldwide investments were undertaken in the USA (2004), India (2006), the Czech Republic (2007) and in Brazil (2008). The upcoming headquarters relocation in Schwabach adds another contribution to the companys capacity expansion. Spacious shop floors with optimally designed workplaces will enable a more efficient organization of process flows and a savings for material handling and order processing. The new plant will include a new state-of-the-art paint finishing system

This new investment aims at increasing the companys competitiveness, which is no longer possible at its present site, and at reducing lead times especially in high demand conditions similar to current prevailing economic situations. More than four hundred employees plus more than forty apprentices work for Niehoff in Germany. Niehoff group worldwide is comprised of five subsidiaries and four representative and service offices with about two hundred fifty employees. Eighty percent (80%) of the current revenue is still generated at the companys headquarters.
