Microduct extrusion line for FTTx deployment

The need for microducts and microduct bundles has generated increased interest around Maillefer's extrusion line models PUL 032 and PUL 063.
Deployment of fiber optic cable over the last mile towards the subscriber's location (i.e. FTTx) has become quite familiar in today’s world of high-speed Internet connections and triple play offerings, which packages together television, Internet and voice services. By pre-installing microducts and then jetting fiber to destination when needed, operators rely on an effective method to bring fiber to the desired location. As a result, the need for microducts and microduct bundles has generated increased interest around Maillefer's extrusion line models PUL 032 and PUL 063.
The PUL 032 is an extrusion line designed for the production of microducts ranging in diameter from 3 to 16 mm. The line's product mix includes one or two layer constructions with options for color and striping. A typical microduct construction consists of an inner siliconized PE layer with a low friction coefficient and a standard outer PE layer. The PUL 032 line is geared for speeds up to 240 m/min, with top production speeds depending on the type of microduct being produced.
Downstream, one finds the new model MWB 1000BT semi automatic dual take-up. Reel transfers are fully automatic and completed at full speed. The take-up perfectly conditions the microduct, thanks to the precise traversing, on DIN reels that have a maximum flange diameter of 1000 mm, and a minimum inner drum diameter of 400 mm.
Microducts are then bundled together into a principal duct with the PUL 063 extrusion line. It assembles and jackets bundles of up to 24 microducts with a finished outer diameter of up to 63 mm max. The line is available with an optional metal forming bench follows for ducts that require an overlapped aluminum shield around the bundle.
The PUL 063 has the versatility of an all-in-one line. By opting for a first trough section with vacuum calibration, the line gains the capability of also producing duct pipes up to 63mm max.
Each line is built around Maillefer's well known extrusion groups, which include screw and barrel designs that provide exceptional homogeneous linear output. For the PUL lines, extruder models range from 20-24D to 120-24D depending product requirements.
The company's strength in multilayer extrusion is revealed when co-extruding the micrometer thin layer of siliconized PE with the outer PE layer. A balanced distribution of melt with high concentricity is ensured through Maillefer's own extrusion heads.

Maillefer offers complete solutions with proprietary components for the production of microducts and bundled microducts. The PUL 032 and PUL 063 lines are just a part of Maillefer's family of manufacturing systems for telecom and fiber optic cable applications. Indeed, there are also the PDL lines for the production of cable ducts, and the OEL lines, which are dedicated to the production of fiber optic cables like the dry loose tube FTTx cable.
