The bottleneck-oriented scheduling of ADVARIS Cable optimizes production processes and improves reliability of delivery
The bottleneck-oriented scheduling of ADVARIS Cable optimizes production processes and improves reliability of delivery

At this year's wire in Düsseldorf, Germany ADVARIS Informationssysteme GmbH is presenting the latest version of "ADVARIS Cable", its all-in-one solution for cable design, manufacturing execution, plant maintenance and warehouse management.

CEO Dr. Manfred Moser says: "ADVARIS Cable is the most comprehensive, fully integrated operations management system for cable and wire producers available on the market today. With real-time production scheduling, condition-based maintenance strategies and automated machine and process data acquisition it makes the Smart Cable Factory an actual practice."

One of the highlights presented at the show is a new scheduling process for dealing with bottlenecks.

Potential bottlenecks among the machines are pinpointed and the sequencing of orders is optimized accordingly. This feature cuts setup times to a minimum and enables deadlines to be reliably met. "Every minute of downtime saved at a machine bottleneck counts double. The rest of the factory is planned around this, ensuring that as far as possible machines, where potential bottlenecks may occur, are supplied with the relevant materials just-in-time. This reduces the quantities involved in work-in-process and consequently the capital tie-up", comments Dr. Manfred Moser, speaking of the new planning aid.

Bottleneck planning is complemented by the ADVARIS MRO Module (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul). By initiating preventive maintenance based on continuous condition monitoring of the machines, ADVARIS MRO ensures that the relevant machine is actually operative and available at the specified time. Activities for preventive plant maintenance can be planned automatically. MRO takes account of set-up times and planned idle times of machines, and makes use of these for upcoming maintenance work. The module also checks up on availability of spare parts. Thus if necessary their procurement can be directly initiated.

ADVARIS will be exhibiting at wire, Düsseldorf: Hall 9, Booth 9B54.
